Spike Lee, Terry Gilliam, Adam Driver and Piers Handling, Guests of Honor of the Los Cabos International Film Festival 2018

The International Film Festival of Los Cabos will celebrate its 7th edition from November 7 to 11, with an unmissable program that includes 41 national and international titles, of which 2 are world premieres, 17 are international premieres and 15 are Mexican premieres.

For its part, the Industry Festival platform, will celebrate one of its most ambitious editions with the assistance of more than 300 leading international film professionals.

The Festival will award $ 6,995,186 MXN distributed among 14 prizes. The winners will be announced on Saturday, November 10 during the closing gala.

Galas

The Cultural Pavilion of the Republic will receive the red carpet and the opening and closing galas of the Festival. The opening gala will be followed by the Latin American premiere of The Favorite (Dir. Yorgos Lanthimos), while our closing gala will have the screening of Blackkklansman (Dir. Spike Lee) , whose Latin American premiere will also be in Los Cabos.

The galas will be conducted by Julio Bracho and Linda Cruz.

 

Tributes

The Festival is honored by the presence of those prominent figures to whom it will pay tribute this year at Los Cabos, and celebrate their place in cinema history,and announce the following awards:

Outstanding Work at Film Industry: Piers Handling .

We are pleased to present this recognition to Piers Handling, Executive Director of the Toronto International Film Festival, for 23 years, who has been a cornerstone for the visibility of American independent film.

Exceptional Contribution to Cinema History Tribute: Terry Gilliam .

During the Inaugural Gala, the Festival will honor the screenwriter, director, actor and comedian, Terry Gilliam, who through essential films such as Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975), Brazil (1985) and 12 Monkeys (1995) has influenced generations with an indelible mark on the history of cinema.

As part of this tribute, Terry Gilliam will present The Man Who Killed Don Quixote (2018) and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998).

 

Exceptional Contribution to Cinema History Tribute: Spike Lee .

The Festival is honored to present this tribute to Spike Lee for being one of the transcendent voices in contemporary cinema, for the strength of his career and the way in which it has affected and inspired other filmmakers and society in general, taking it to always questioning against the status quo. The work of Spike Lee not only revolutionized the cinematographic art of the second half of the 20th century; its relevance is forceful and its message, until today, more urgent than ever.

As part of this tribute, Spike Lee will present his latest film Blackkklansman (2018), and the iconic, Do The Right Thing (1989).

Outstanding Work In Cinema: Adam Driver .

The Festival extends a warm welcome to Adam Driver, an actor who for his outstanding career has become an indispensable name in the world cinema scene and who has also collaborated with the great names of cinema such as Martin Scorsese, Jim Jarmusch, Steven Soderbergh, Spike Lee and Terry Gilliam, among others.

As part of this tribute, Adam Driver will present a special screening of Paterson (2016), as well as starring both Blackkklansman and The Man Who Killed Don Quixote.

Afterdark

After two years of absence, returns one of the most celebrated parallel sections of the festival; in Afterdark we give place to the cinema that explores terror and sci fi; extreme narratives, alternate worlds and immersive universes that provoke and exploit our fear of the unknown.

Films that come to life in the Festival by the guests that accompany them or the parallel events that come from them, is composed of:

● Bayonet (Dir. Kyzza Terrazas) - presented at the Cinema on the Beach performances, held at the traditional El Médano beach, in collaboration with the Hotel Casa Dorada.

● Girls well (Dir. Alejandra Márquez Abella) - presented at the Cinema on the Beach performances, held at the traditional beach El Médano, in collaboration with the Hotel Casa Dorada.

Mexico First and Los Cabos Competition

Presented by Dreams Los Cabos and Casa Dorada Cabo Real.

After the evaluation of a successful call, the International Film Festival of Los Cabos presents the selection of 14 feature films that make up the two competitive sections: Mexico Primero and Los Cabos Competition. These films will compete for $ 1,166,000 MXN in prizes.

 

REMINDERS OF INDUSTRY AND PROGRAMMING ANNOUNCEMENTS

21 projects were selected to participate in Gabriel Figueroa Film Fund, during the 2018 edition of the Festival in the GFFF- Cinema in Development and GFFF - Cinema in Postproduction (Work In Progress).

Cinema on the beach.

We celebrate our collaboration with Casa Dorada, announcing the functions of Cinema on the Beach that the hotel will host on Thursday 8 and Friday 9 November.

The functions are free and we only ask the public interested in attending them to contact the hotel's concierge area to reserve their place in these magical projections.
