The first edition of The Eagles Program came to a successful end this past weekend. The goal of the workshop is to contribute to a reduction of violence and promote gender equality and a respect for human rights, for the adolescent male population in San José del Cabo. A group of 30 teenagers who are grant recipients in the stay-in ACE junior-high scholarship program of LIGA MAC participated in the 5-session workshop.

The general objective of this workshop is to help young males develop skills, attitudes, and ideas regarding sexuality, gender, health, masculinity and gender violence, culminating in a life project. The ultimate objective is to help male and female adolescents coexist through learning to take care of one’s self and others. The emphasis is on how a mutually respectful way of life improves personal, emotional and social ties while enhancing the quality of life.

The methodology and content used is socio-affective experiential with the use of games as an educational manner to change attitudes. The Eagles program consisted of five sessions of three hours: Sexuality, Masculinity Mandates, Health and Gender; Domestic Violence and Life Project. The Theoretical Framework: Humanist pedagogy with a transformative approach, gender perspective with a focus on human rights, construction of a culture of mutual respect.

Developed by a Study Group dedicated to Professional Training in Gender and Masculinity including psychologists: David Delgado Tapia and Thomas Armando Llamas Úguez; Professional Consultants, Jesús Escobar Joaquín Espinosa and Joseph Garcia and under the guidance of General Coordinator, Heddy Mayanín
Villaseñor Hernandez, M.Sc.
